A successful college basketball coach at Nicholls State, Landry became athletic director at Nicholls and commissioner of two college conferences, the Division I Southland Conference (1987-90) and the Division II Sunshine State Conference (1994-present).

He also worked as director of special projects from 1993-95 for the Texas Rangers, helping oversee Nolan Ryan’s retirement celebration, the opening of the Ballpark in Arlington and the 1995 MLB All-Star Game.

A member of the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame, he has also received the Carol Maddox Award from the Louisiana Athletic Directors Association for career achievement in administration. He helped found the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches, the LADA, the Gulf Star Conference and the NCAA Division II basketball Disney Tip-Off Classic in Orlando.

The LABC’s service award is named in his honor.
